Now I have an iPhone ... but no Oracle Business Indicators!

A few weeks ago I was in Belgium and I took the chance to buy an iPhone. Availability of iPhones was still very limited, but finally I found a store with iPhones on stock. The big advantage of Belgium iPhones (and Italian as well) is that they have no SIM lock (which is not available in The Netherlands, where you only can buy it together with a T-Mobile subscription).

business_indicators_on_iphone.jpgOne of my goals with the iPhone was to use the Oracle Business Indicators, a free Oracle application to show the Business Intelligence dashboards and other metrics. I searched on Apples iTunes Store, found lots of interesting applications but ... no Oracle Business Indicators!

It took me a while before I found out that this was caused by the fact that this application was not available in the Dutch iTunes Store. I really don't understand why, but that's how it is.

The English language version of Oracle Business Indicators is available for the following countries: Austria, Belgium, Canada, Denmark, Finland, Greece, Ireland, Luxembourg, Norway, Portugal, Sweden, United Kingdom, United States, Australia and New Zealand for free from Apple's App Store on iPhone and iPod touch or at www.itunes.com/appstore/. Terms, conditions and restrictions apply.

No worries, the accompanied documentation explained the workaround (change the name of your Country in iTunes). Changing the Country was indeed not so difficult, I changed it to Belgium and in the Belgium store the application was available, as expected. But unfortunately iTunes did not let me install any application without a valid user iTunes account. And a user account is only valid if you have a registered credit card or PayPal in that country ... which I obviously don't have for Belgium.

That was also the end of my efforts. So I left with a fantastic phone ... but (for the time being hopfully) no fantastic Oracle dasboards.

Update 30 September 2008: I found a (creative) way to sign up for a US account in the iTunes Store without the need of a credit card or any other payment method. So I managed to install the Indicators finally.

Well Jouke, I know someone who does have a registered credit card in Belgium. So if you can't sleep over it ;-) then let me know.

Regards,
Sven

Hey Sven, that's a nice offer! I knew Belgians are nice people :) Let's try it the next time we see each other.

Hi Seb,

I can't remember exactly anymore what I did, but it was something similar as explained in this link
