BI for Apps internal training ... some impressions

Experiences - Training

Last week I joined (and partly led) a training with Oracle BI colleagues and some BI consultants from a local partner. This is pretty unique, since the BI and Apps worlds are not too familiair with each other. So I didn't only learn a new product (OBIEE) but also some new colleagues!

screenshot_obiee.jpgThe training itself had a strong technical component (I learned as well that a lot of BI projects have a strong technical nature), and I was asked to tell something about the E-Business Suite foundation and basic Financials processes. Although I expected it somewhat, I was still surprised to learn that information that is so  basic to every Apps consultant is very useful for BI consultants. For the some of them it was the first time that they heard about EBS fundamentals.

Of course the same applied the other way around. I didn't had any knowledge about OBIEE before, and I was really upset when the first dashboards were displayed. What a difference compared to the standard EBS reports! Slick and easy to use graphics, trend bars, pie charts, multiple dimensions ...

I'm sure this will make a lot of accounting people very happy in the future.
